Lake Apalachia
About Lake Apalachia
Remote and scenic, Lake Apalachia (spelled with one p) is located in Cherokee County, North Carolina. The lake covers 1,100 acres of surface area and 31 miles of shoreline. The U.S. Forest Service manages the land around the lake as part of the Nantahala National Forest. This lake is pristine and almost completely undeveloped since the majority of the land surrounding the lake is National Forest. Lake Apalachia is unique in that its water level is maintained at full pool year round. The shoreline of Lake Apalachia is strictly protected as there is a 40’ contour buffer between the water level and private lakefront property which is managed by the US Forest Service ensuring forested shorelines. Docks are not permitted on this wilderness lake which currently has only a small number of waterfront homes. As a result there are no marinas and powerboat access is limited to boat ramps at the dams making this a peaceful place to paddle, swim and fish.
